Out of My Head, Into My Soul
I've been falling in love with photography again. Let me explain.
It's not that I ever fell out of love. I couldn't ever, especially with the advent of the super duper camera in my phone.
I discovered photography in the sixth grade when I created a photo print made with sun, pebbles, a mysterious dark room, and a mix of chemicals. That first whiff of chemicals was a doozy and that first print was magic happening right before my eyes. I'm sure the sailing and horseback riding options I was given might have produced that magic too, but that dark room really drew me in. Funny that sunny day in Wisconsin I chose a dark room since I love light and now love the outdoors so much.
That first print I ever made spelled the word "LUV." It was perfect for the sweet, innocent sixth-grader I was then. And it's just as perfect for the storyteller photographer I've become now.
I guess I'm lucky in that way that I discovered my flow early on. I just seemed to lose it here and there through the years while falling in and out of love with many other things. Some love of others stuck, some faded, but photography was always at my core.
As I've thought about rebuilding my brand for my "Third Creative Act," I've gone through literally 100,000 images of my 20+ years of work and have been blown away by the vast portfolio I've accumulated.
I'm eager to share those moments and events I've captured with my eyes and cameras over the years, but I'm also ready to share the journey that's led me here—to my desire to further explore The Healing Farm retreat business, and to expand my work to include The Common Soul Project and essays. I'm inspired to start that journey, and to share and explore it here with you. If you're interested, stick around. I can't promise regular entries, but I'll do my best while I expand my creative reach in my new(ish) Midwestern home of Southwest Michigan.
My photography has taken me to places and introduced me to people most people don't get to experience and I feel so fortunate and lucky, but I've been derailed a few times by my other desires, injuries, wildfires, and a big move in my midlife back to the Midwest from California. New technologies in equipment have been moving fast and I'm keeping up trying to learn.
With this new branding and website, I'm allowing myself to have a place to explore my expanding creative interests while keeping a place for maintaining my love for and desire to showcase my vast photographic experience.
Discover the journey with me and enjoy the photos and stories along the way. I hope to inspire you to discover your own creativity or path to flow and well-being alongside me. I'm going out of my head and into my soul to celebrate the collective spirit of stories. I hope you follow along.
